Our plans to shoot their family session in downtown Dallas were squashed when we found out the Dallas Half Marathon would be happening RIGHT where we were going to take photos, right when we would be there. After I gave them a handful of suggestions James and Amy picked a location perfect for their family. The morning light was gorgeous (sunrise sessions are starting to be my favorite) and we made good use of it. When I put their first sneak peek photo on Facebook, my husband asked if we found some type of “Enchanted Forrest” or if I had photoshopped the photo. Nope. Just Dallas being beautiful.
James and Amy are some of the sweetest, kind and wonderful people I’ve ever met. I met them about three years ago and Amy is the exact kind of person I want to be like. She is kind to everyone, never has anything negative to say and is just an overall amazing person. Their girls were perfect for their session. They both followed direction well on the few times I actually posed them and they loved to have fun. I think this was the first family session where I didn’t try to be perfect. I let my creativity and fun loose. I played games with the girls, tried to catch in between moments that maybe I would have missed on other sessions because I was so concentrated on the next pose, and I bent some photography rules when composing my shot. Tops of heads are cropped in some photos, the subjects were far to the right or left, etc. but I loved their session. Even though we got “Christmas Card Worthy” photos where everyone is posed, looking and smiling, we got a lot more fun, candid and natural photos. I will definitely be shooting all session with the mentality of dropping the perfection and embracing the creativity and imperfection. So here are some of MY favorites from their session.
